Obituary for René Furer

The first universal history of architecture
In 1721 the architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach published a book that brought together the architectures of different cultures from Egypt to Japan. Three centuries later ETH professor Maarten Delbeke has issued a re-print of the influential publication.

An exhibition at the ETH Materials Hub features eight 1:1 scale mockups that illustrate plantbased constructions. They were built by students from the guest studio of the architecture practice Material Cultures.
Students build spatial interventions at HSG
A university building in St. Gallen is enlivened with a wooden shelf and a kiosk. The project by the professor Momoyo Kaijima and the sociologist Niklaus Reichle combines analysis, design and self-construction. And brings together architecture and economics students from ETH and HSG.
Grant for fungal art project
ETH PhD researcher Tiziano Derme and ETH sound architect Nadine Schütz receive the ArTS Production Grant 2024, which is awarded by Ars Electronica together with Pro Helvetia. Their installation combines sound and fungal growth and will be on displayed in Linz in September.

The consequences of the French nuclear tests in Algeria
ETH visiting professor Samia Henni has curated an exhibition at the Department of Architecture in which she presents materials from the archives of the French nuclear program in Algeria in the 1960s. The multimedia installation runs until April 2nd.
Student magazine calls for contributions
The 44th issue of the “trans magazine”, the student magazine at the Department of Architecture, revolves around the English term “lore”, which describes the collective knowledge about a topic. A call for contributions is looking for ideas for the next edition reflecting upon the word “dirty”.

Silke Langenberg elected to two federal commissions
Silke Langenberg, Professor of Construction Heritage and Preservation, was elected to the Federal Commission for Monument Preservation as well as the Federal Commission for the Protection of Cultural Property by the Federal Council at the end of the year.
