Obituary for René Furer

Furer was a lecturer in architectural theory at ETH Zurich from 1968 to 1994. He has died at the age of 91.

René Furer grew up in the Bernese Seeland. After studying urban planning in France, he worked in Zurich and Paris. In 1962 he came to the Department of Architecture at ETH as assistant to Professor Bernhard Hoesli. From 1968 to 1994 he influenced a generation of students as a lecturer in architectural theory. In his lectures he showed images from his archive, which included over half a million slides. Even after his retirement, Furer continued to take photographs and traveled regularly. He died in Dübendorf at the age of 91.
