Rapid Architectural Prototyping Laboratory

Area of Operations

  • Development of the RAPLAB-Environment
  • Support and Initiation of Teaching and Research Projects
  • Technological Empowerment

At RAPLAB D-ARCH we manage a comprehensive infrastructure for model-making and prototyping that extends from traditional to computer-controlled (CNC) equipment and is complemented by a specialized material shop. The focus lies on the transformation of ideas into models, of data into material; it is our goal to make this process direct, simple and elegant. Our primary target audience are the approximately 1300 students and the professorships in the D-ARCH. Members of other departments at the ETH, members of other educational institutions, and external users are also welcome. We strongly believe in the concept of empowerment; the necessary knowledge to enable our users to work independently with our equipment is conveyed through courses, our website, and in direct discussion. To expand our knowledge and examine specific questions further, we hold seminar-weeks, MAS-modules, and seek partnerships. The insights we gain through these efforts are again made available to our users.
