For guest lecturers in design: instructions

Design Project

Guest lecturers teach constructive design and/or urban design for the semesters 5 and 6 of the bachelor program and the semesters 1-3 of the master program. Therefore, classes are composed of bachelor and master students.

In case of a design project with a focus on construction, supervision of the students has to be undertaken by the guest lecturers.

Seminar weeks

As a supplement to the academic program, seminar weeks are conducted in the form of ad-hoc instructional groups during one week per semester. Drawing on real-life examples, seminar weeks examine closely defined issues to both expand students' knowledge of technical issues and to faster understanding of the relationship between technical knowledge and daily life considerations underpinning the production and impact of architecture.

Guest lecturers in design are exempted of the duty to organize seminar weeks. Otherwise we recommend traveling in Switzerland in order to minimize administrative efforts. During their first semester at ETH, guest lecturers should not organize a seminar week.

Lectures

Guest lecturers will have their own course-unit numbers for their lectures "Architectural Design V-IX". For seminar weeks, only one course-unit number exists. Students then select the specific lecturer.

If construction is also supervised in a design project, students have to register for the lecture "Integrated Discipline Construction" as well. In case of urban design, students have to register for "Architectural Design V-IX" and for "Integrated Discipline Planning". The corresponding numbers are listed in the course catalogue.

Internal enrolment D-ARCH

The first step in enrolment for design classes and seminar weeks is the internal enrolment at the Department of Architecture.

  • Students of the 3rd to the 6th semester have a certain freedom of choice for the enrollment for design classes. Students enter their priorities in a web based application. Depending on the successfully passed design courses, chances to get their top-priority rise. You can find the offered design courses, the procedure, the mode and the login for the internal enrolment on the website of the internal enrolment.
  • myStudies: The web application myStudies enables all active ETH Zurich students to execute their administrative tasks online. After the completion of the internal enrollment procedure at D-ARCH, in a second step, students register these courses as well as all other lectures and courses on mystudies.

eDoz

This academic application supports the lecturers at ETH Zurich with the administrative tasks connected with their teaching.
