Exhibition «Flight Assembled Architecture»
At the FRAC Centre Oréans the first architectural installation to be built by flying machines is shown. The installation has been developed by the professorship Gramazio & Kohler in collaboration with Raffaello D'Andrea. The exhibition opens on December 1, 2011, and lasts from December 02, 2011 until February 19, 2012.

On November 04, 2011 the exhibition «François Dallegret» which was co-organized by the professorship Stalder, will be opened at the AA in London and will end on December 14, 2011. At the opening, the first monograph of Dallegeret, edited by Alessandra Ponte, Tom Weaver and Laurent Stalder will be released.

«Reciprocal Frame Structures» originally started as a project and was later integrated into the curriculum of the chair of Annette Spiro. Annual Exhibition 2011
This year's Annual Exhibition of the D-ARCH opened on September 29, 2011. It presents the achievements in education and research of the academic year 2010/11. The exhibition ends on October 28, 2011.

In several interviews Gregor Eichinger explored the mystery of the relationship between architecture and the people as their users. CICA Bruno Zevi Book Award 2011 (PDF)
The International Committee of Architectural Critics (CICA) has presented the winners of the 2011 Book, Exhibition Catalogue and Journalism Awards. The CICA Bruno Zevi Book Award 2011 has been awarded to «Die Stadt im 20. Jahrhundert. Visionen, Entwürfe, Gebautes» by Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani.

 

Distinction for Good Buildings in the City of Zurich
The City of Zurich awarded the Good Buildings Prize. The jury's key criteria were the integration into urban planning, the quality of the architecture, the technology and the innovation. Among others, buildings designed by Christian Kerez and by pool Architects have been awarded.

 

Bündner Kulturpreis 2011
The government of the Canton of Graubünden awarded Gion A. Caminada the Bündner Kulturpreis 2011 for his internationally recognized architectural work.

 

«ETH Students Win Gold in China»

Holcim Awards Next Generation 1st prize 2011
“Cast on Cast, efficient and sustainable fabrication system of complex surfaces” has won the Europe Holcim Award “Next Generation” 1st prize 2011. The research, developed by Lluis Enrique, assistant at the D-ARCH, together with P. Cepaitis, D. Ordonez and C. Piles at the AA, will be continued at the chair of structural design at the ETH Zurich.

 

Holcim Awards Acknowledgement prize 2011 Europe
For the development of a new type of re-useable free form concrete formwork the Chair for Architecture and Digital Fabrication received a Holcim Award. The research was partially sponsored by the EU-FP7 TailorCrete project.

 

Dr. Tom Van Mele und Prof. Dr. Philippe Block win
IASS Tsuboi Award 2010

For their paper «Novel Form Finding Method for Fabric Formwork for Concrete Shells», presented at the IASS 2010 Symposium in Shanghai, China, Dr. Tom Van Mele and Prof. Dr. Philippe Block were awarded the prestigious IASS Tsuboi Award.

 

D-ARCH Lecture Series «Tendencies», PDF>
The new Department Lecture Series focuses on the current tendencies in the architecture in general by concentrating on the two fundamental aspects: self-reflection and the ‹view from the outside›. In consequence, not only architects, but also representatives of other disciplines shall get a chance to speak.

At the Oslo School of Architecture and Design a workshop on hydroelectric infrastructure has been conducted from September 03-09, 2011. Lukas Pauer, student at the D-ARCH, assisted Luis Callejas from the architecture office Paisajes Emergentes from Medellín (Colombia).

 

MAS Urban Design competition winner
MAS Urban Design of the Chair Marc Angélil wins a first and a second prize in the competition «RENOVA São Paulo». The winner are going to be awarded contracts for upgrading projects in the favelas of São Paulo.
