Architecture as a form of knowledge pertains to the definition of theoretical propositions. In that, it is inherently conceptual. At the same time, architecture is a material art involved with physical parameters, basically practical in nature. These respective realms pertaining to the thinking and making of architecture are strongly interconnected and stand in close relationship to the significance attributed to the role of formal expression within the discipline. Thus, the primary focus of this research is the identification of inherent forms of dependencies between abstraction, production, and perception. Specifically, research has been made as to how the terms techné and -logots have been used within architectural writings ranging from medieval manuscripts to treatises of the modern period. Correspondingly, architectural theory is perceived in reference to the history of ideas from which understandings of technology can be deduced. The results of the work include the identification of types of relationships between theoretical constructs and the practice of architecture. These types disclose correlative dependencies between thought and action contributing to architecture's formal and spatial manifestations. Future research will investigate terminologies and conceptual models pertaining to other fields of knowledge as to their potential for the field of architecture.
